Mon Health SJMH Opens Heart and Vascular Office
Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has opened the Stonewall Heart and Vascular Office at Physician Office Building #2. Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Mohit Srivastava, and Cardiologist, Dr. Paul Alappat, practice at this location.
SJMH Chief Administrative Officer, Avah Stalnaker, explained the importance of offering these specialties to local patients.
"West Virginia is in what is known as the cardiac belt. This means we have many people who have some form of heart diseases, and, or vascular disease. Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has offered cardiac care since the opening of our first Intensive Care Unit in 1978. In 1993 we recruited our first board certified cardiologist and now we are adding the excellent team of heart and vascular physicians," Stalnaker said.
Dr. Mohit Srivastava brings 16 years of experience to SJMH. One procedure he will perform for patients is the arteriovenous fistula, providing adequate blood flow for dialysis. His other specialized procedures include those for cerebrovascular disease such as stroke and TIA, peripheral arterial disease, aortoiliac aneurysmal and occlusive disease, renal artery and mesenteric vascular disease and venous disease.
Dr. Srivastava received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University. His general surgery residency was performed at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia. He completed his vascular surgery fellowship at Charleston Area Medical Center. Srivastava is board certified in vascular and general surgery.
Dr. Paul Alappat has been on the medical staff at SJMH since September 2019 but has moved his practice to the Cardiac and Vascular Office. Some of the procedures he performs include stress testing, cardio-inversion, ABIs, pacemaker referrals, echocardiograms, TEEs, catheterization, EKGs, Holter monitors and cardiac duplex.
Dr. Alappat attended medical school at Karnatak Medical College in India. His residency was at the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn & Queens and New York Methodist Hospital. He performed his fellowship at New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center and he is board certified in cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology.
